Minnesota North College Vermilion Campus Welcoming Week 2024

Now in its 12th year as a global campaign and in its inaugural year at Minnesota North College, Welcoming Week 2024 is a call for individuals and groups to come together and celebrate their strengths and differences. This year’s theme, We’re All In, invites communities to showcase how they’re building places that value all perspectives, backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. Through our campus community connections’ activities and events, Vermilion Campus is providing individuals and community organizations the opportunity to publicly proclaim welcoming values, foster mutual understanding, and build a deeper sense of belonging for all.  We hope you join in, and we thank all those that have helped organize and are willing to volunteer at the events below:

Sunday, September 15 

• College & Community Potluck Dinner, 3pm – meal preparation and 5pm dinner, at Ely Folk School 

• • Led by Ely’s Sage Foundation, Vermilion students will develop a menu, shop for groceries, and learn how to cook and prepare the main dishes.  Join us at 5pm for a free meal; bring a side dish; and enjoy – bon appѐtit! 

Monday, September 16 

• Welcome to the Vermilion Library Open House, 9am-3pm, cs102 

• • Stop by to learn about Vermilion’s library resources 

• Ely Area Food Shelf – Delivery trucks unloaded – 10 am 

• • Student volunteers check with Athletics and TRIO for this community service opportunity. 

Tuesday, September 17 

• National Constitution Day – handouts available in the Academic Resource Center 

• Vermilion Tables & Community Activities at the Ely’s Farmer Market 

• • Youth activities with Vermilion students  

• • Sports games 

• • Squad car tours 

• • Sawmill demo 

• • Obstacle Bouncy House for all ages 

• • Animal education and petting with Contented Critters 

• • Community Table:  school supplies for youth 

• • Foundation Table: alumni, scholarships, how to audit a course, etc. 

• • Request donations from community to bring back to campus basic needs and food pantry 

Wednesday, September 18 

• Community Connections Day on Campus

• • Students apply to be a TRIO Scholar; community stop in to learn more  

Friday, September 20 

• Glow Run 5K Race, supporting Northern Lights Clubhouse  

• • Student participants: sign up with Student Life to get registration voucher; bring voucher to onsite registration table to pick up race bib and packet; race begins at 7pm in Whiteside Park 

• • Student volunteers: sign up with Student Life 

• • Glow Run Race Watch Party (glow in dark swag available) 

Saturday, September 21 

• Ely Area Food Shelf, 8am-11am (walk-ins) – Check with Student Life & RAs 

• Volleyball HOME versus Mesabi Range, 11am-5pm 

• • Food drive – donate at the door/get in free 

• Football at Minnesota State Community and Technical College 

• Ledgerock community dinner (free) 

• • 3rd Saturday every month at 5pm, 1515 E Camp Street 

• Ely Marathon: participate or watch along the route, Whiteside Park events
